Actress, director, and writer Lisa Miranda, hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, holds the distinction of being the first in her family born outside of Cabo Verde, a rural, volcanic island nestled in the Atlantic Ocean. Lisa's upbringing in a multicultural community imbued her with a rich tapestry of cultures, sounds, and cuisines, fostering within her a deep sense of empathy and curiosity that would later inform her creative endeavors.
Drawing from her global experiences, Lisa has collaborated with the Japanese-American fashion house Tadashi Shoji to create and direct short films across three continents. These films often explore themes of female empowerment, representation, and self-discovery, reflecting Lisa's commitment to amplifying diverse narratives.
Lisa is immersed in post-production on her debut documentary, "Alma D'Carnaval," which delves into the origins and enduring vibrancy of carnival. From its inception on an island at the westernmost tip of Africa, the documentary explores how this lively celebration continues to captivate and unify the entire island, gaining international recognition in the process.
In addition to her filmmaking pursuits, Lisa is actively engaged in writing two series that honor the diversity of women, celebrate marginalized experiences, and amplify indigenous stories. She also serves as a member of the jury for the DjarFogo International Film Festival in Fogo, Africa, and was a producer of the AfroAnimation Summit 2024 in Burbank, California.
A Dual citizen, Lisa holds a degree in Philosophy and English from St. John's University in NYC where she graduated with honors. She trained at the T. Schreiber Studio and the Susan Batson Studio, and with several other brilliant coaches across Boston, New York, Paris, and Rome.
Recognized for her contributions to the arts, Lisa has been honored with a certificate in her hometown of Boston. With a passion for storytelling that informs, transforms, and empowers, she continues to pursue a career that allows her to share stories, particularly those centered on female narratives, diversity, and the exploration of untold stories.
